North Carolina Cooperative Extension has partnered with NC State University’s Center for Clean Energy Technology to host a series of community meetings on solar and wind energy facility siting concerns. The purpose of the meetings is to gather input from community members on their concerns regarding solar energy facility development in their county. This series is part of a larger project – Carolinas Renewable Energy Development and Assistance Siting Hub (DASH) – funded by the US Department of Energy.

As of this post, the following meetings have been scheduled.

  • November 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 210 Main St, Oxford, NC 27565, in the Large Meeting Room at the Richard H Thornton Library
  • November 7, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 2736 NC-210, Smithfield, NC 27577, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center
  • November 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 801 S Walker St, Burgaw, NC 28425, at the Pender County Center
  • November 25, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 1001 E Ash St, Goldsboro, NC 27530, in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium at the Goldsboro Library
  • January 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 165-C Agriculture Dr, Kenansville, NC 28349, at the Duplin County Center
  • *February 24, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 512 South Church Street Hertford, NC 27944, at the Albemarle Commission (wind development focus)
  • *February 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 118 Blades St, Edenton, NC 27932, in the Culinary Arts building at the College of the Albemarle – Edenton-Chowan (wind development focus)
  • March 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 2523 East Highway 76, Marion, SC 29571, at the Marion County Administrative Building
  • April 10, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. — 147 W College Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550, at the Hartsville Memorial Library

Meetings with a * will focus on wind development, while all others will focus on solar development. More dates/times are being added in NC and SC for next year. These meetings will allow attendees to voice their thoughts, concerns, and questions about large-scale renewable energy planning, siting, and permitting in their area and learn more about the Carolinas Renewable Energy DASH project and its impacts on the region.
