IRS Now Accepting All Business Tax Returns

(Updated: Jan. 13, 2025, 4:55 a.m.)

At 9:00 AM on January 15, the IRS began accepting all business tax returns for the 2024 tax year.  These business tax returns can be e-filed through the IRS' Modernized e-File (MeF) program.

The following types of returns can be filed through this system:
  • Corporation
  • Employment tax
  • Trusts and estates
  • Excise tax
  • Exempt organizations
  • Individual
  • Partnership
  • Withholding tax
As a reminder, the IRS has provided extensions for North Carolina residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Helene for deadlines that pertained to the 2023 tax year.  For those residents and businesses who were, prior to Helene's occurrence, subject to October 15, 2024 deadlines, that deadline was moved to May 1, 2025.

The deadline for 2024 taxes has also been extended to May 1, 2025 in order to avoid a situation in which 2024 taxes were due before 2023 taxes.
